We have a few sweet events coming up that we wanted to let you know about! We’ve had the unique opportunity to partner with Blackroom Records, the recently re-instated Greenville College recording company, and they’re currently promoting the release of their signed artist Zach Strout’s new CD. We wanted to come along side them and help in their promotion because WGRN believes the music culture at Greenville College is an extremely important part of the experience here.

Coming up tomorrow night (ie Thursday, March 4) at 6pm, Zach Strout will be a guest on The Gig, hosted by Derick Gregory. Derick will be interviewing Zach and playing some of his music off his new CD, Luggage Rack. If you live locally, be sure to tune in for the opportunity to win a free CD!

And the really big thing we wanted to let you know about is Zach’s CD Release Party. Next Tuesday, March 9, from 9-11pm Zach is putting on his first show since the CD release. He will be playing in the Greenville College Blackroom. BUT if you don’t live locally, you still can have a chance to hear the concert because WGRN WILL BE BROADCASTING THE SHOW LIVE! So be sure to tune in to our online stream at wgrn.net or locally at 89.5FM!

For more info on Zach, visit the links provided below, and don’t forget to check out the new show lineup for this semester on wgrn.net under the Local Shows tab!! Thanks, everyone!

Programming Philosophy:

The mission statement of WGRN is: first, to serve Jesus Christ and His kingdom; second, to serve as a learning laboratory for Greenville College students in the field of broadcasting; and third, to reach out to its audience with programming that edifies, encourages, informs and entertains. WGRN’s programming flows from that mission statement. Many Christian media—whether radio, television or magazines—use content that is all or nearly all created by and for Christians. The clear majority of those who listen to those radio stations, watch those television stations and read those magazines are already Christians.

Greenville College owns the license for WGRN. Greenville College is strongly affiliated with the Free Methodist Church, an evangelical church. Evangelicals seek to bring more and more people into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. WGRN’s programming seeks to be evangelical.

To achieve this evangelical purpose, WGRN’s programming includes music from both Christian and mainstream artists. The music is selected by carefully examining the lyrical content of songs which fit into the format. The music from the mainstream artists is more widely popular than that of the lesser known Christian artists. So when a non-believer is searching for a radio station, she or he is more likely to stop at WGRN to hear a favorite tune. As these listeners stay tuned, they will hear music from Christian artists—music whose lyrics lift up the Lord. These listeners would have been very unlikely to have ever tuned in to a station that aired only Christian artists. Combining Christian and mainstream music makes WGRN much more evangelical than it would be with only music from Christian artists.

Programming:

WGRN airs many different types of programs over the course of the school year, however many are covered continously without fail.

M/W/F at 9:30am the Greenville College Chapel is aired live from Whitlock Music Center.

M/T/W/R/F at 11:00 am Focus on the Family is aired.

Every year in December, WGRN proudly airs the anual Messiah concert held in the Whitlock Music Center.

Sporting Events including Football, Soccer, Basketball, Baseball, and Softball games are aired as frequently as possible with the schedule of aired games found on the sports page of this site.

Sports Broadcasting Policy:

Throughout the year, many conflicts arise when two sporting events are being held at the same time. And seeing that WGRN can not air both at the same time if we wish to avoid confusion, the following policy has been in put in place.

Football: All home games will be aired, and as many away games as possible based on traveling arrangements and availability of announcers. There will need to be two main announcers at games, while we will have rotating studio announcers

Soccer: Guys and girls soccer games rotate during the soccer timeslot, however if both games are possible, then both games will air. If game time conflicts with football, then football gets priority and soccer is recorded to air later. As soccer builds its following then soccer and football will rotate precedence. Homecoming and Senior Night will have coverage at both games and will be live coverage. There will need to be at least two possible announcers for games to rotate, while maintaining our rotating studio announcers

Basketball: As many games as possible during first semester will be aired, based on availability of announcers. Games during interterm will air when personnel is available. All home games during second semester will be aired with two main announcers per gender (two for male, two for female) at games, and while rotating studio announcers.

Baseball/Softball: Guys and girls games rotate when needed, however, if both are possible, then both are aired. If there are time conflicts, then boys and girls will rotate being recorded and airing live. There will be two main announcers per gender (two for male, two for female) at games, and rotating studio announcers.
